Park Young-sun, a former minister for small and venture businesses, has decided not to run in the ruling party’s primary for mayor of Seoul, party officials said on Saturday.
The Democratic Party will now select its candidate for mayor of Seoul through a primary that includes former party leader Song Young-gil, Representative Park Ju-min and Representative Kim Jin-ae.
“Former Minister Park has sent the message that she will not be running in the mayoral primary after careful consideration,” the party’s emergency committee said.
Earlier, the party reversed and decided to select its Seoul mayoral candidate through the primary amid a power struggle between those for or against former presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
The election for mayor of Seoul will be one of the biggest races, along with the election for governor of Gyeonggi province, with current mayor Oh Se-hoon of the main opposition People Power Party, who should get re-elected. (Yonhap)
