Restaurant fire spreads to other businesses, homes evacuated: police

MERRICK, NY – A fire swept through several businesses in Merrick on Wednesday evening.

The fire started in the kitchen of the Fuji Seoul restaurant at 151 Merrick Avenue just before midnight, Nassau police said.

Merrick firefighters were assisted by the Roosevelt, Wantagh and Freeport fire departments to put out the blaze.

According to the police, no less than five businesses were affected by the spread of the flames. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, police said.

A firefighter was lightly injured and transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

While the investigation is ongoing, detectives have deemed the fire not suspicious.
