Residents of South East Queens participated in Councilor I. Daneek Miller’s annual BBQ and Back to School Giveaway at Wayanda Park in Queens Village on Saturday August 21.
Families enjoyed free burgers, hot dogs, ice cream, music, and activities, including two giant bouncy houses.
As part of the annual tradition, students in attendance received free supplies as they prepare to return to class for in-person learning in September.
Vaccines and PPE distributed by the New York Department of Health were also available to the community. Representatives of the DSNY were also on site to discuss composting with local residents.
“Each year, we strive to provide local families with an outlet to use local parks in the district, while enjoying free food and entertainment for the whole family,” Miller said.
In June, Miller hosted his Family Skate Day in St. Albans Park, and next month he will present the third and final event in the Summer Family Fun Series on September 18 at Detective Keith L. Williams Park in Liberty. Avenue. and 173rd Street in Jamaica. This event will run from noon to 4 p.m.
