There are over 30 providers to choose from. This is even less than normal years as the event is still slightly reduced.
But there’s no shortage of food, live music and all Taste concerts are free this year.
“I dreamed of it for 20 years and we finally succeeded, yes!” Michelle with ME Catering.
What’s new at this year’s Taste of Chicago?
Chicago police will be on high alert, ramping up resources all weekend with safety top of mind for organizers.
“Given all the circumstances, Highland Park is certainly first and foremost, we’re in a different world, so safety and security is a very, very high priority for this event,” the Taste manager said. of Chicago, Neil Heitz.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the city is ready and protected.
“We are very aware of what happened,” Mayor Lightfoot said. “We’re reviewing all events on the calendar between now and the fall and making sure we’re learning what lessons we can.”
Organizers have said you may need more time to get through the entry queues for bag checks and strongly urge you to say something if you see anything.
In the meantime, other things are getting easier. The event is going ticketless this year.
All you need is cash or a credit card to buy things from each vendor.
Ribs, chicken and waffles, cheesecake, the Taste of Chicago has it all this year.
“We have our famous short ribs with Mr. E Chef Catering, our special sauce and our special seasoning fillet with fries and our chicken,” Melvin said with Mr. E Catering.
Traditions like that in their place in Grant Park.
“We can’t wait. It will be so nice to get everyone together and have fun,” said Rebecca Vanderkloot.
Even Chance the Rapper was there, looking for ice cream with his daughter.
